WELCOME TO THE TIGERS!
We have had such an amazing Year so far! Our Autumn Term Topic was MORE THAN MODS AND ROCKERS! We absolutely loved learning all about the 1960's! From Wales during the 60s, to 1960s Music, Fashion, famous Historic Events as well as looking at Pop Art and even planning our own 1960s Concerts!
For the Spring Term, our topic is STARGAZERS! As chosen by our wonderful Tigers using Pupil Voice! We cannot wait to learn all about Space, our Solar System, Forces, NASA, Space Launches and also take a look at the Film 'Hidden Figures'. The story of the 3 African- American Females who were the brains behind the Apollo 11 Launch! We have lots of Missions to complete, so watch this space!
This Term our Class Novel will be 'Cosmic' by Frank Cottrell- Boyce.
During the Spring and Summer Terms 2020, our PE day will be a Thursday.
The children should ensure their reading books are brought to school everyday to give us plenty of opportunities to listen to them read. Books will be changed once the children have completed each book.
You can support your children by reading lots of other lovely books you may have at home, or by taking a trip to Aberdare library. Children also complete daily Literacy Carousels, which gives the children opportunities to work on their Spellings, Handwriting, Guided Reading and Vocabulary.
New spelling lists will be provided on a Monday ready for a test every other FRIDAY. The children have been taught many different strategies to help them practice their spellings at home. They will also be given time in class to practice spelling strategies with an adult.
Children have daily BIG MATHS CLIC SESSIONS where they are given time to practice their CLIC strategies, counting, learn ins, it's nothing new, and calculations. Children work independently, in groups and also with Adults during this time, to practice their CLIC skills, learning new skills, and addressing any misconceptions. Children take a CLIC test every FRIDAY. Once they have received 3 full mark scores in a row (10) they then move onto the next higher CLIC.
