Our school offers a warm welcome to all children looked after. We realise that it can be a difficult time moving schools and perhaps having a new person to live with. We will work closely with carers and pupils so you feel comfortable in our school.
All staff are due to have training in Level 1 ‘Children Looked After Friendly School’ refresher training during Autumn Term 2022. All children looked after are able to choose a key adult to support them throughout their school life in Caradog. This is an adult with whom they can develop an attachment-like-relationship to help them navigate challenges through their day-to-day life at school.
Mrs. Kelly Strong is our Designated Person for CLA.
The School Governor with responsibility for Children Looked After is:
Mr. Mark Strong
Along with the Headteacher, we also have a team of people who look after wellbeing in our school. Mrs Ellen Hook, our Deputy Head and Mr Carwyn Davies our ALNCo, and a dedicated team of support staff.
We use the Thrive approach throughout our school. Thrive is a therapeutic approach to help support children with their emotional and social development. The Thrive approach offers practical strategies and techniques and is built around online assessments which identify children's emotional development and provides action plans for their individual needs. All our children looked after receive one-to-one Thrive intervention.
Three of our staff are licensed Thrive Practitioners:
Mrs. Kelly Strong
Miss Sally Rossiter
Mrs Louise Hughes
Our school also has two trained ELSA's (Emotional Literacy Support Assistants). Please contact your child's class teacher if you feel they would benefit from ELSA support. These are:
Miss D. James
Miss N. Davies
We work closely with other services, including Social Services and the RCT Learning Support Team. If additional services are needed we liaise with the CLA Team in the Local Authority. Assistance may include support from psychologists and other agencies. Please see the RCT CLA leaflet for further information.
